Notting Hill Carnival is fast approaching and can you believe- this year will be its 50th Year running! It’s the time of year where us Londoners get to enjoy the sweet island vibes in this normally drab city. Get ready for 'nuff rum punch, copious amounts of jerk chicken and those soca and bashment (plus the odd garage and hip-hop) tunes that will be on full blast come bank holiday.
A while back I came across photographer named Giles Morbey. He has been taking pictures of this yearly event, and its attendees, from 1990 up until 2010. I have to say I absolutely love his images, especially the earlier ones. Gazing at these black and white photos; you can feel all the vibrancy of carnival and energy from the London youth in attendance. This was a time where you could tell a lot from the way a person dressed, Who they rolled with, the music they listened to- even what 'endz' they were from. You feel the fun and vibes in their clothes and the energy from the music in their stances.
These pictures give me all sorts of style/ hair inspiration and is making me totally gassed up for this years event!
